Having a cellular signal but no internet in Bali is often caused by incorrect Access Point Names (APN) settings or an unregistered IMEI for long-term stays. Immediately restart your phone and ensure your local SIM (e.g., Telkomsel) is selected for data. If issues persist, reset network settings or check your quota.
Why You Can Have Signal but No Internet
1) APN Is Not Set Correctly
APN (Access Point Name) tells your phone how to connect to the mobile data network. If the APN is missing, incorrect, or set to a different value, your phone may show signal but won’t pass data.
2) Mobile Data Is Turned Off
Sometimes mobile data is disabled accidentally, especially after installing a new eSIM, switching SIMs, or arriving in a new country.
3) Your Data Quota Is Not Active or Has Run Out
Even with good signal, internet access will stop if:
- Your data package has not been activated yet, or
- Your data quota has already been used up.
You can top up your Telkomsel eSIM data quota at BaliEasy.
4) You Changed Location (Network Needs a Refresh)
Moving between areas, such as from the airport to your hotel, or between regions, can cause the network to hang temporarily. A quick device restart usually forces a fresh network connection.
5) You Are Outside the Covered Data Zone
Some packages are local-zone only (for example, Bali & Lombok).
If you are currently in another region such as Jakarta, Papua, or elsewhere outside the covered zone, your internet will not work until you add national data.
This is not a signal problem, your phone can still connect to the tower, but data access is restricted by your plan.

How to Fix It (Step by Step)
Step 1: Check and Set the APN
For Android
- Go to Settings
- Tap Mobile Network or Connections
- Select Access Point Names (APN)
- Choose or create an APN with the name:
- APN: internet
- Save and select it
For iPhone (iOS)
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cellular
- Select your eSIM
- Tap Cellular Data Network
- Enter:
- APN: internet
- Leave username and password empty
Step 2: Make Sure Mobile Data Is ON
- Enable Cellular / Mobile Data
- Ensure the BaliEasy eSIM is selected as your Mobile Data line
- Turn Low Data Mode off if enabled
Step 3: Restart Your Phone
A simple restart refreshes the network connection and often resolves the issue immediately, especially after APN changes or location movement.
Step 4: Confirm Your Current Location
If you are outside Bali or Lombok, your local-zone data may not apply.
In this case, you’ll need to top up with national data to continue using the internet across Indonesia.
Step 5: Check Your Remaining Data
If your quota is finished, internet access will stop even though signal remains strong.
Topping up restores connectivity instantly.
