Calls on a Telkomsel Bali eSIM may not work because some eSIMs or devices are mainly designed for data, and your local Telkomsel number may still be finishing its activation.
Free call minutes (for example, 25 minutes) only apply to calls within Indonesia, not to international numbers.
To call outside Indonesia, you need to buy international call credit using Telkomsel’s SLI 007 service, as international calls are not included.
Why Calls May Not Work on a Bali eSIM
1) Calling features may be limited on some devices or eSIM profiles
Not all eSIMs are identical. Some are optimized primarily for mobile data, and calling features depend on device compatibility and local network provisioning. This is especially common on newer phones or dual-SIM setups.
2) Your Telkomsel number may not be fully active yet
Local Indonesian numbers require successful activation and registration before all services (including voice calls) work properly. During the initial activation window, data may work first while calls come online shortly after.

3) Free local call minutes are for Indonesia only
Bali tourist eSIMs typically include free local calls (e.g., 25 minutes) for calling Indonesian numbers only.
If you try to call international numbers, those minutes won’t apply, international calls require paid international call credit.
4) International calls need SLI credit (007)
To call outside Indonesia, you must purchase international call credit via Telkomsel’s SLI 007 service. Rates vary by destination country and operator. You can check the guidance here How to Call International Numbers from Indonesia Using Telkomsel
What to Do
1) Test the line
- Dial *888# or try calling a local Indonesian number.
- This confirms whether the voice service is active.
2) Restart your phone
- A simple restart often completes network provisioning after activation.
3) Make sure the eSIM is active
- Check that the Telkomsel eSIM is ON and has signal.
4) Set the eSIM as your preferred line for calls
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Default Voice Line → select the Telkomsel eSIM
- Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Calls → select the Telkomsel eSIM
5) Turn Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds, then OFF
- This forces the device to re-register with the local network.
Calling Within Indonesia vs. Calling Internationally
Calling Indonesian numbers
- Covered by the included free local call minutes (e.g., 25 minutes).
- Ideal for hotels, drivers, restaurants, or local contacts.
Calling other countries
- Not included in free minutes.
- Requires international call credit (SLI 007).
- Rates depend on the destination country, always check the tariff list before calling.
Tips for a Smooth Calling Experience in Bali
- Keep your home SIM if you need OTPs or frequent international calls.
- Use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or other internet calls for international conversations to save costs.
- If you’re staying longer, ask about top-ups or long-term options to maintain full services.
